"A true gem in Portland. We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at the VQ. Everything we ate was exceptional. Flavors were complex. Plating was fun, sophisticated, but not stuffy. Great atmosphere. Lot of fun."

"Really everything we had was good - like the whole vibe of the place - the attention to quality ingredients, well-prepared & with good service - no wonder they've been around a while."
"I love the swagger of this place, no PR, not featured on any tv show, hardly any advertising, yet the place is always packed."
"This quaint brick restaurant has long clung to its own park-like setting as tall office buildings have grown up around it. In warm weather, the pleasant garden with lofty oak trees and stone tables offers a lovely way to feel part of downtown and simultaneously commune with nature. The dining room offers dishes such as crispy duck confit with cherries and port, house-made seafood ravioli, and rich osso buco from a menu that changes daily depending on local food resources. Desserts always feature a half dozen or so house-made ice creams. The appetizer menu, also available in the bar, is tempting: try the grilled, stuffed dates wrapped with bacon. Weekend brunches boast many perennial favorites, especially the Dungeness crab Benedict. There are typically 40 wines available by the glass as well as microbrews on tap. But many prefer the standard cocktails shaken by accomplished bartenders. Service is snappy and authoritative, and a big city hum of pleasure radiates throughout the restaurant."
"Portlander's affection for the Veritable Quandary's flower-lined patio overlooking the Hawthorne Bridge is legendary. This is one of those places that locals bring their family for brunch when they are visiting. The garden ambiance is amazing at sunset in the summer as well. The menu is "classic Northwest" with ingredients from local farms and an extensive wine list."
"The raised back dining room has great views toward the river and the large patio is one of the city's best good-weather outdoor dining spaces."

"Top shelf chefs, local and seasonal ingredients, a lovely decor, and a gracious wait-staff can make the VQ a big night out."
"An interesting mix of Pacific Northwest cuisine melds seamlessly with creative international touches. Desserts are often decadent perfection - the chocolate souffle is an absolute must!"
"VQ is a Portland staple for leisurely brunches, business lunches and the dress-to-impress crowd. The patio seating is a hidden oasis and the food is top notch but not top dollar."
